Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, says he will not join any hurried political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.
He made this known during the National Executive Council meeting of the Julius Abure-led Labour Party faction on Monday, where he restated his loyalty to the party and warned against opposition figures rushing into coalitions without proper planning.

Speaking at the meeting, Baba-Ahmed said he remains fully committed to the Labour Party despite rising talks of mergers among opposition parties. He described such quick arrangements as dangerous if not well thought through.
He acknowledged widespread dissatisfaction with the current government but insisted that Nigerians must think beyond just removing the ruling party, stressing that what comes after is even more important.

“Yes, I still remain in the Labour Party. I am not one to sleepwalk into any political arrangement,” he said.
“I note again that the coalition genuinely plans to vote out the misruling APC, but the government that follows is even more important than the act of removing the government itself.”He also praised Labour Party’s record in the 2023 elections, describing it as a party that should not be discarded. He condemned internal sabotage and called for unity and careful planning.
As political realignments gather momentum ahead of 2027, Baba-Ahmed says the Labour Party will focus on strategic reform and stability rather than desperate coalitions.
