The Nigerian Army says it is investigating a viral video showing some soldiers complaining about the quality and quantity of food items allegedly sent to them by their superiors.
The video, which has been widely shared on social media and picked up by some mainstream outlets, shows food supplies the soldiers claimed were poorly provided.
Army statement and response
In a statement signed by Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Army said it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness while verifying the authenticity and context of the footage.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a thorough investigation to determine what happened and to ensure accountability.
Troops’ welfare a priority
The Army emphasized that troops’ welfare remains a top priority under the COAS’ command philosophy, which focuses on building a well‑motivated and combat‑ready force.
This commitment is reinforced through the recently launched Soldier First Concept, placing soldiers’ well‑being, dignity and operational readiness at the heart of all policies.
Commitment to transparency
The Nigerian Army assured personnel and the public that it will continue to uphold high standards of leadership, accountability and integrity.
It added that the findings of the investigation will be made public once concluded.
