The National Bureau of Statistics NBS has reported that the average retail price of premium motor spirit PMS rose sharply from N750.17 in June 2024 to N1037.66 in June 2025
This was disclosed in the bureau’s Petrol Price Watch for June 2025 which was released in Abuja on Thursday
According to the report
“The June 2025 price of N1037.66 represents a 38.32 percent increase over the price of N750.17 recorded in June 2024”
The NBS further revealed that petrol price also saw a slight month-on-month rise
“Comparing the average price value with the previous month of May the average retail price increased by 0.96 percent from N1027.76”
States With Highest and Lowest Petrol Prices
On the state-by-state analysis
Jigawa had the highest average price at N1107.52
Ondo followed at N1104.80
Lagos was next at N1100.29
Meanwhile the lowest average prices were recorded in
Yobe N950.60
Kogi N986.67
Imo N987.86
Regional Breakdown for Petrol
By geopolitical zones
North-West recorded the highest average petrol price at N1062.84
While North-East posted the lowest at N1020.15 per litre
Diesel Prices Also Climb Sharply
In a separate report the NBS disclosed in its Diesel Price Watch for June 2025 that the average retail price of diesel stood at N1813.81 per litre
According to the bureau
“This represents a 23.98 percent increase compared to N1462.98 per litre paid in June 2024”
The bureau added that the price also rose on a monthly basis
“On a month-on-month basis the price increased by 3.16 percent from N1758.26 recorded in May 2025”

Adamawa N2355.32
Plateau N2236.42
On the lower end
Ondo recorded N1365.71
Anambra N1391.02

Regional Breakdown for Diesel
At zonal level
South-South had the highest average diesel price at N1963.86 per litre
While the South-West recorded the lowest at N1618.74 per litre
