Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has appointed Mr. Joachim Achor, a native of Abia State, as the new Accountant General of Anambra.
The move breaks the long‑standing tradition of reserving top positions for only state indigenes and underscores Soludo’s drive for merit and inclusion.
A career built in Anambra
Mr. Achor joined the Anambra civil service after completing his NYSC in the state, where he earned the NYSC State Merit Award for outstanding performance.
Over the years, he rose through the ranks as Director and Permanent Secretary before his elevation to Accountant General.
Soludo’s inclusive reforms
Since taking office in 2022, Governor Soludo has appointed non‑indigenes into key positions, including Mr. Adebayo Ojeyinka from Osun State as a Permanent Secretary.
The governor’s press office explained that all appointments followed a transparent process, including computer‑based tests, merit screening, and personal interaction with the governor.
