Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has recorded another milestone in his career after becoming the first African ever to win the GQ Türkiye Sportsman of the Year Award. The prestigious honour was announced at the 2025 GQ Men of the Year ceremony held in Istanbul.
Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, was recognised for his outstanding performance during the 2024/2025 season, where he delivered one of the most dominant campaigns in Turkish football. The Super Eagles striker scored 37 goals and provided 7 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, helping Galatasaray secure both the Süper Lig title and the Turkish Cup.
His blistering form also led Galatasaray to make his move permanent in 2025, sealing a historic €75 million transfer, the highest transfer fee ever paid by a Turkish club.
In his acceptance remarks, Osimhen thanked GQ Türkiye, his teammates, fans, and family, describing the award as a deeply meaningful moment in his career. He pledged to continue working hard for both his club and the Nigerian national team.
The GQ Men of the Year platform is one of Türkiye’s most influential award events, celebrating excellence across sport, entertainment, style, and culture. Osimhen’s win marks the first time a Nigerian and indeed any African has claimed an award at the ceremony.
