The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false a widely circulated claim that it cancelled the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
A fake press statement trending on social media on Saturday, July 19, alleged that WAEC, working with the Federal Ministry of Education, cancelled the exam over large‑scale malpractice and leakage of question papers.
In a swift clarification on Sunday, July 20, WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the claim was the work of “mischief‑makers.”
“The said examination has not been cancelled. The source of that information is unknown, but it is clearly intended to create confusion and panic among candidates,” WAEC stated.
The Council confirmed that marking has been completed and results will be released on or before Thursday, August 4, 2025.
WAEC urged candidates and stakeholders to rely only on its verified social media pages, accredited media outlets, and its Public Affairs Department for official updates.
