Dr Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after Abdullahi Ganduje resigned from the position, citing health reasons.
Yilwatda, a former APC governorship candidate in Plateau State and one‑time Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, was confirmed during an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The meeting took place at the State House Conference Centre with President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors and other senior party members in attendance.
Tribute to Buhari
During the session, the NEC observed a minute of silence in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on July 13 in a London hospital.
Party leaders described him as a key figure in APC’s rise to power.
North‑Central gains chairmanship
Yilwatda’s appointment returns the party’s chairmanship to the North‑Central zone, addressing internal agitation after the position moved away during Ganduje’s tenure.
